Club Umpires Rule 4 (f) and (g)

Posted by Melvyn Bond on 16/11/2017 21:03

To all clubs, the rule has been reviewed and we have decided that awarding clubs points for providing club umpires is not correct, points are won and lost on the field of play. What we have decided is to do is increase the financial penalty on clubs without club umpires and it will be determined by the level the 1st XI plays.

The following will be applied in 2018;

Clubs with 1 or 2 teams in a recognised Saturday League should provide a minimum of 1 umpire (umpiring a minimum of 16 league matches in total

Clubs with 3 teams in a recognised Saturday League should provide a minimum of 2 umpires (umpiring a minimum of 32 league matches in total between them.

Clubs with 4 or 5 teams in a recognised Saturday League should provide a minimum of 3 umpires (umpiring a minimum of 48 league matches in total between them.

There will be a bonus for each game umpired over and above minimum of £5 paid to the club.

Financial Penalties 2018

1st XI in Championship - £200

1st XI in Division 1 and 2 - £150

1st XI in Division 3, 4 and 5 - £100

1st XI in Division 6, 7 and 8 - £50

From 2019 onwards if a 1st XI is in the YSPL it will be £500, and the other divisions will be increased by £50.

The finance will be “Ring Fenced” for umpire development/training and rewarding clubs who provide club umpires.

In 2018 we will need 108 umpires every Saturday, we have 80 on the full list so there will be a short fall of 20 to 30 umpires.
The SYSCL will continue to apply the rule where if two clubs playing each other have no club umpire there will no umpires appointed to that fixture.

Below is the list of clubs who do not supply club umpires.

There are a number of umpiring course being run for 2018 season so if you have anyone who wants to be trained up or needs a refresher than contact Terry Bentham.
